Musical Futures Training Programme 09-10

Musical Futures is delighted to announce its free training and professional development programmes for the 2009-2010 academic year with an exciting new training structure.

All training/CPD is led by experienced, innovative classroom music teachers who have adapted and adopted Musical Futures in their schools. Training this year falls into four types of courses, which will take place across the country from January 2009. Courses are as follows:

An Introduction to Musical Futures
(For those new to Musical Futures)
A comprehensive, practical introduction to Musical Futures which should enable teachers to begin implementing it in their classrooms/teaching situations. The course will explore the informal learning and non-formal learning styles of Musical Futures, and will include plenty of opportunity for discussion.

Musical Futures in Practice 1
(For those already running Musical Futures)
This course aims to provide an in-depth exploration of the informal learning model, and to encourage teachers and practitioners to go beyond ‘The Deep End’ and fully integrate informal learning into their departments/ teaching situations.

Musical Futures in Practice 2
(For those already running Musical Futures)
This course aims to provide delegates with some ideas about how to embed the practice of ‘non-formal teaching’ through group improvisatory and compositional work.

Musical Futures in Practice 3
(For those already running Musical Futures)
The aim of this course is to encourage delegates to consider how to fully embed the Musical Futures philosophy/ethos across a music department, as well as to explore how to increase students’ musical skills prior to Musical Futures work.

All training is free of charge, and open to anybody – from classroom teachers and peripatetic teachers, to Music Service/Local Authority staff, community musicians, students, and other arts and education professionals. Each course will run for a full day, and delegates attending the course will receive a copy of the new materials Musical Futures: An Approach to Teaching and Learning.

Full details of the training courses, venues, and dates are available from www.musicalfutures.org.uk/training or download a PDF of the full CPD Programme.
