Music ITE News: Student teachers access Sing Up!

Student teachers can now gain access to the Sing Up website; a wonderful resource that supports the government's singing programme in schools.

ITE colleagues should encourage their students to register with the Sing Up site and to use the material in their placements. There are over 300 songs, with downloadable audio files: [performance, backing or 'echo' teaching tracks] plus notated copies and activity notes. The notes contain tips on 'how to teach the song', extension activities and cross-curricular links. The website also offers details of training courses and Sing Up
events nationwide.

Students should:

  1. Access the Sing Up site at www.singup.org/
  2. Choose "Register Now"
  3. Fill in the application form for "Freelancers"
  4. Make sure that they clearly state their student status and explain how Sing up will benefit their studies in the ‘session description box’.

From there, each application will be considered for approval.

Using the Song Bank

Also have a look at Louise ~Cleverdon's resource on the Sing Up page on www.teachingmusic.org.uk which provides a step by step guide to using the Song Bank.

Sing Up

What a helpful bank of ideas and songs for the classroom, but where do we find the detail of theoretical underpinning, the value base and the overarching philosophy which links these resources? Perhaps I have missed it.

Sing Up

Does anybody know of anything like this to help with the Secondary Curriculum?
